Say Goodbye to Unlimited Data Tariffs

Anonymous

Looks like O2 are going to follow AT&T's lead by getting rid of the Unlimited Data tariffs for smartphones and iPhones.

Doesn't even look like they're goig to do an unlimited data bolt on!

This could get very expensive!

Just found this on Which Website

We should start a petition?! If only 3% of customer as they claim will be effected then there is no reason why they cant have an unlimited bolt on....!

whats 3%?! They lie I tell you...

I was going to pay my tariff off to get the new iphone but as it stands I think it is a bit of huge step backwards and a downside to these new tariffs and the iphone which is a data using phone

Say I never renewed my contract would I be able to keep unlimited data and just by a sim free iphone 4?

Good question. Existing customers will still have unlimited data. But the iPhone 4 takes a microsim so o2 will have to send you a new sim card, so they can get you that way by saying you are still upgrading and will have to go on the new tariffs.

This may come in handy if people are looking to buy PAYG Iphone4 and not wanting O2 to change the SIM and therefore contract:

I don't have an iphone at present but the reason why I decided I wanted one was because I noticed LOTS of people with them always seem to be surfing the internet, downloading apps etc., this is going to change if its costing you a fortune just to run the thing, I don't want to be worried about how much surfing I am doing when I am paying £40 a month on a contract. In my opinion if your paying that much a month you should get ALL the bells and whistles!

Maybe its time to start looking elsewhere for a contract.........I'm looking at you 3. All you have to do is release an unlimited contract and you will triple your contracts.

orange and vodafone all have limits... 😞 just had a look...

Looks like I might just get a normal phone and get an ipad on orange capped at £40 per month...

Orange has a 750mb a month fair usage iphone policy...

So if they change our contract half way through we cant do anything about it????!!!! Cant we cancel it? Surely thats illegal?

Heres hoping 3 can save us O2 definately won't be getting an upgrade from me even with the 30% corporate discount I get through work. Thats if they allow that they didn't with the 3Gs thats why I still have a 3G. I mainly use the data I never use more than 20% of my call allowance or text allowance and that on 600 mins & 500 txt.

Yes, all the networks have done this or are doing it. Vodafone are even changing it for existing customers.
If you look at the US, they charge $19 a month for 250megabytes!

All well and good, but the USA are way ahead of us in regards to free WiFi hotspots. I was there recently and I was amazed at the number of FREE & OPEN hotspots, and I dont mean the likes of the Cloud or Openzone here where you need to be a registered customer. Bars, shopping centres, whole city centres (eg Boston), parks, budget hotels (pay attn Premier Inn!)....need I go on. Just click and you are connected. Makes a huge difference to the amount of mobile data you use up.

Bad move o2.
