Powercut(s) & tech

Anonymous
Not applicable

Came home about 10pm to a powercut, had been advised by text on my mobile that the powergrid was working on it being fixed by 10:15pm ... yes, I have matches & candles but in the dark could not find them ... my torch, usually in my handbag was now lost in my room because the ceiling bulb had gone a few days ago

I tried my laptop, as I thought it would work by battery power ... however ... no internet connection

atm I have not got Windows set up on my new mobile

I'm curious ... if I had a notebook or tablet = would they have worked ? ... or would they have been like my laptop = not working as no internet connection ?

btw power came back on about 11:15pm ... they had texted me a 2nd time to say power would be restored by about 11:30pm

If you had a notebook or tablet that relied on Wifi they would not have worked Jane. However some tablets work from a sim (using mobile data) ...they would have worked ...

Glad the power came back anyway...

A dongle plugged into your laptop USB port would have got you online whilst your data allowance lasted.

Indeed. I did this when we had a 3 day problem with our broadband being down. Used a dongle with a 3 sim in it. A bit of a 'lifesaver' here. (Even though folk were queuing up to use it) wink

You could have turned your laptop into a hotspot for others to log on to.
