O2 Refresh-a suggestion.

There been a lot of talk about the updated O2 Refresh promotion which is rightly seen as innovative approach to the old issue of being tied into a 24 month contract.

I was having a lie in earlier and I was thinking about tackling the issue from the opposite direction.

How about...

Offering a Pay In Advance option where the customer pays in advance for the handset in full and also a 24 month deal which includes a say unlimited calls with 100GB of data. It would of course have to work out cheaper than buying a handset off line then getting  2x12 month SIM only deals or letting a SIM only run for 24 months in total.

The customer would benefit from from having an overall cheaper deal over 24 months , no monthly payments to worry about ( unless they’ve accessed services outside O2’s normal usage) .

O2 benefit from having the money upfront, almost zero credit risk and seen to be offering an innovative solution.

Perhaps O2 might give me a reward for this suggestion...🤤

You can already pay the device plan in full at the start of your contract & just pay the airtime portion until you want to give 30 days notice of cancellation

I'd have to be getting a bargain price on the handset from O2 to do that, as the price of handsets, in absence of any promotion by handset manufacturer, is inevitably higher when purchased from O2 as part of a Refresh upgrade than buying the same handset from another supplier or the manufacturer (quite often).

My OP3T was purchased at a slightly over the odds price, including a small up-front payment, and I still have three months to go which now makes my handset more expensive than if I'd purchased it outright from OnePlus at the time I upgraded January before last.  (So much for the "interest free" purchase, btw!).

And no, O2 have not, as yet, offered me an "Upgrade On Us" deal.

@Anonymous The new tariffs do not allow full pre payment  you have to pay 3 months device plan off

Considering the price of some new phones these days, there aren't that many people who would have the disposable income to pay for a phone in advance. If you did have the money, shopping around would undoubtedly find you a sim free phone for less than what O2 would charge. You could then just take a sim only contract, which 99% of the time works out less. I'm puzzled as to why the OP would think that giving O2 24 months of airtime fees in advance would be to the customer's advantage? Paying monthly by Direct Debit is the most economic way. May as well play with house money.

I agree @Bambino & the added fact that he’s after a reward for the suggestion is not right

Ah well - what do I, on a lowly 3GB tariff, expect, compared to those buying 20GB per month or more? weary

Thanks, @adamtemp64.
