Guys at phones4u seem to think it's coz O2 have invested too much into the iphone and the N97 is meant to rival the iphone, so basically if they took the N97 on they might just lose out and the other thing that's got a lot of feathers ruffled is the fact that it is loaded with skype I mean these guys won't even take on the push to talk feature that comes with these phones.
I was looking forward to upgrading to the N97 as well coz I personally don't like the the iphone but guess we r not valued customers so am jumping ship, it's back to orange I go :robotsad:

I've not heard of anyone who has been supplied with an N97 with Skype installed.
Mine certainly hasn't.

Your links are dated March and February. A day is a long time in politics. Also, that was all pre-release theory. Today we are in reality.

Will anyone with Skype on their N97 (pre-installed) please hold their hands up?

Of course, if you really want it, and it's allowed by your network provider, here is where to get it:-

😐 Might not have in now but later??
Skype is still just designing the user interface, and the application code hasn't been written, said Durchslag. He expects to have something ready to demonstrate by June, with the final application ready for release some time in the third quarter.
That makes it likely that Skype will be missing from the first batch of N97 phones. Those will be in stores in June, Nokia Executive Vice President Kai Öistämö said at a Nokia event on Monday.

I repeat, there is no installation of Skype on my N97.

You're right about Skype on 3. They have accepted it, and priced their tariffs accordingly.

I strongly suspect that this is the real reason O2 have created such a fuss over the N97. They've spent so much time developing their separate tariffs for their "exclusive" iPhone, and its facilities, that they've forgotten about the N97, and haven't yet decided on how how to price for its capabilities. They probably think that their existing tariffs are too generous for the increased internet usage, particularly, of this phone. Although the N95 had similar capabilities, the N95's small screen precluded anything more than occasional use of internet facilities. The N97's much larger screen, and qwerty keyboard, mean that people will be using the internet much more. Just like the users of the new iPhones.

Except that O2 haven't designed new tariffs yet, as they did for the iPhone. I think their recent actions are all designed to buy them time to come up with appropriate tariffs, rather than any technical objection to the use of the N97 on their network.

It's only my opinion though.

If you look on the o2 shop site they've taken all the N series nokias off apart from the N95. Was going to order a N96 which was on there till about a week b4 the new i phone came out. Looks to me like o2 are trying to limit people options so that they will go for the i phone. Hopefully when all the i phone hype has gone they will put the n series phones back on.

When i was in my local o2 shop today i did ask about the n97 and they seemed to think it would be in in 3 to 4 weeks.
