NoTW advertising

I have been a customer of O2 for many, many years and am writing to request that O2 cease their advertising with News of the World, and News International. I understand that O2 is reviewing its advertising, which I support. Would like to make it known that as a customer, I think withdrawing all advertising with News of the World, and News International is the right thing to do.

@Adam --------- - While the situation unfolds, we will not be purchasing advertising in the News of the World. We'll continue to monitor the situation closely.

Which is exactly what I said in previous threads.
I have received a text from HBOS to state that they are reviewing their policy with News International. This was Monday 4th July and without pressure from account holders.
Companies such as O2 will all no doubt be reviewing their own policies. Let's face it, the NOTW and the Sun are gutter press but they sell papers on the strength of that. People like to read that kind of stuff which is why their reporters and freelance people are under pressure to get the sensational headlines and anyone is fair game, the bigger the name the better!
They have overstepped the boundaries of decency with these latest revelations but it is up to the individual's own conscience where they stand on this one. I have always bought the Sun on a Monday because of their extensive coverage of footy but I won't be in future. That would prick my conscience.
However, I won't be ending my contract with O2 should they choose to continue advertising in these publications and no amount of pressure from silly facebook and twitter campaigns will make me change my mind. I am happy with my conscience. If I leave O2 it will be for financial or personal reasons.
So, can we put this to bed on the O2 forum and leave the morality groups to campaign through the proper channels. Write to the CEO or the directors of the company but leave politics aside.
......It's another Bango overkill methinks!

Most companies will already have discussed this at boardroom level. threatening to leave a company unless they bowed down to your demands is something that again would have been discussed. Why not just wait until the companies announce their decision before campaigning on the forum? Or write/email directly to the board?

Unfortunately Steve, I don't think anyone at smn_news actually read any news or did any research before posting their opinions all over this forum. :mansurprised:

Think you are right perksie.
To Abs :
Amen to that! Sensible statement which all companies will be following without pressure from groups which are using the forum for their own ends.

I hardly think a company like O2 need any help from the likes of a little known and desperate for publicity journal like the one advertising here, to formulate their advertising policies for them!
NOTW will publish it's final edition on Sunday, it won't be missed!

It's just been announced on CNN that the NOTW's last edition will be on Sunday. It's closing.

From the BBC: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-14070733

I particulary find this quote bizarre:
No advertisements will run in this weekend's paper - instead any advertising space will be donated to charities and good causes.

Though no doubt the social media witchfinder generals will be claiming the moral victory.

Forget it, it's just a management stunt, as it will be replaced by The Sun.
The Sunday Sun perhaps! 😐
