So to cut a long story short, I requested a network unlock code for my LG handset.

In the supplied instructions, it says I must use the Original SIM however after typing the relevant code it says, all the lock options are disabled and I can only dismiss it.

I watched a video where it shows you them placing a secondary SIM (another network) into the handset instead where it then requests you type in the code. Something at the back of my head is telling me this makes sense. I can't remember what I did with my Samsung Galaxy S2 although I think I swapped it for an Orange SIM, typed the code and reset it.

Have I been sold a one trick pony? Or shall I wait till I get another MicroSIM and try it like in the second video. TBH I can't be bothered talking to O2 customer support.

Hi

Did you request the unlock via O2

After getting the e mail you should just insert a non O2 SIM card such as Vodafone etc and follow the instructions.

Don't use a virtual network SIM card.

"Dear O2 Customer,

Thank you for your request.

The code you require for IMEI No - ********** is as follows:-

**********

Unlocking procedure for the LGD802 handset (LG G2)

Process Step 1) Insert SIM card (original Network SIM card must be
used).

Step 2) Turn on the mobile handset (Enter PIN code if required ).

Step 3) From the home screen press the ?Call? button and then enter the
following key: 2945#*802# (an unlock menu will automatically appear).

Step 4) Select ?Service Provider Lock?

Step 5) Enter the unlock code (SIM_Unlock or SP_Lock)** and press ?ok?
(the handset will be reset automatically).

Step 6) Switch off the handset insert the SIM card for the new network
and then switch the handset back on. (the phone is unlocked and ready
for use)."

That was the instructions sent to me.....

Either way I will need to get the a secondary SIM before I can do this.

That's what I thought jonsie.

Get another network sim and try again and if that does not work request another unlock.

Sounds like it's already unlocked. Have you tried a Vodafone or EE sim in it?

See the problem I can forsee is, if for some reason other the SIM is rejected, I may end up locking my handset even with my original SIM. So I need to get this right because the air will turn blue and red if this systematically screws anything up based on their instructions.

Oh I see......I have European Firmware after checking. So the message you receive is actually a kind of false negative. It actually says, "Because you are using open firmware you can not unlock your device".

And if so, why did O2 support not tell me this or does this pass as back office humour?

I think they have sets of unlocking solutions and after confirming the phone has been used on the O2 network covering their terms they supply that code.
