i live in an area that currently has no 3g coverage,,,, OL13 postcode,  i have been told that by 2015 O2 will provide coverage in all areas..... can someone tell me if this is by 2015 or sometime in 2015, which could mean late 2015.....  I don't expect 4g    but 3g would be nice........ why does o2 have no connectivity to 3g in certain areas, when most other networks offer even 4g when i cannot even recieve 3g............ Its so annoying

All networks vary and cannot offer 100% coverage.
If another network serves your area better it would be wise to consider switching to it.
However, having said that, O2 have to provide 98% indoor coverage by the end of 2017 (OFCOM's commitment) so it could come to you anytime between now and then.

Hi @Anonymous and Welcome to the forum.

It Must be so frustrating. 😞

Here is the link to 02's Network Future Plans.

http://www.o2.co.uk/connectivity/network-coverage/the-next-big-thing

Until then if your on Pay Monthly and have home broadband you could use 02's Tugo Service which runs off wifi too if call quality becomes an issue too.

Services such as Whatsapp and Viber are viable alternatives as long as the recipients have them downloaded too.

http://mobi.o2.co.uk/pl/svt/si/mo2couk/po/o2uk/pa/4ghome is a link showing current info.

You could register here for updates from O2.

Take care.

Edit to add link.

Hi @Anonymous O2 originally announced they would try to complete the 4G rollout by the end of 2015, which I think is what you probably were told, however this seems to no longer be reported so may take longer, but before the end of 2017 at the very latest.

Alongside the 4G rollout O2 are also updating 3G and 2G coverage so your signal should improve.

It's very frustrating and 2015-2017 is a considerable time to wait if you are stuck with little or no signal.

My 3G signal is poor round this area but I'm lucky that there are plenty of free wifi spots otherwise I would be looking at EE who have 4G here already.

When I spoke to customer service yesterday they were still targetting 2015 for 4g rollout, but from my recent experience I took the comment as a pinch of salt.

thanks all to those who have tried to help,,,, i am not particular in a rush for 4g,,,,  would like 3 g  but that is not even available.... i also dont fancy signing up for another 24 months to a service that i cannot get as 3g does not exist at all in my area........... seems a lot of money to pay every month for a service that i am not able to receive........ I have been with o2 for over 10 years, cannot understand why they have no 3g, this should be available in all areas before trying to bring 4 g in......

To be honest Andrea I would be looking at a different network in your situation. It's pointless signing another contract until you get good coverage.
Before deciding try free P&G Simms online for the other networks and go with the best signal.
You might have to get your phone unlocked but it's free for contract customers.

I would agree woth jonsie here, try different PAYG SIMs before jumping network, don't just go by online coverage checkers.

I have SIMs from 3 of the 4 networks and the coverage varies for each of them, area by area.
