Network Unlock request

So to cut a long story short, I requested a network unlock code for my LG handset.

In the supplied instructions, it says I must use the Original SIM however after typing the relevant code it says, all the lock options are disabled and I can only dismiss it.

I watched a video where it shows you them placing a secondary SIM (another network) into the handset instead where it then requests you type in the code. Something at the back of my head is telling me this makes sense. I can't remember what I did with my Samsung Galaxy S2 although I think I swapped it for an Orange SIM, typed the code and reset it.

Have I been sold a one trick pony? Or shall I wait till I get another MicroSIM and try it like in the second video. TBH I can't be bothered talking to O2 customer support.

Indubitably true. Samsung S21 Ultra and Xiaomi 14 Ultra

Hi

As said if a person requests an unlock from O2 via the form and somehow they input the code wrongly too many times the phone locks out.

Your saying you've not done this I assume so something has gone wrong along the line.

If by inserting an alternative networks SIM card , preferably not one that works on a virtual network, if it does not unlock/ accept the new network then you'll have to approach O2 via dialling 202 to go through any available options.

Handsets supplied by O2 both on Contract and Payg are locked to them.

Let us know how you get on.

Sounds to me like a security screen lock code.
If it is brand new from O2 you need to take it back.
If you got it off eBay raise a dispute and send it back, unless it was something you have done to it since receiving it?

The phone was brand new and from an O2 shop in Feb this year. I have just tried a Tesco simcard which worked fine but i believe they are O2 anyway?!

Then i tried a Vodafone simcard and this worked fine, made 2 calls all ok so then i would assume the phone is already unlocked.

Yes, if Voda works it will be unlocked.
