Leaving O2 (anyone else feeling the same?)

I know this has been discussed a few times before but i just wanted to see if anyone was getting the same impression from O2 that i have been getting?

I have been an O2 Pay monthly customer for 6 years , my average monthly spend across this period has been £50 a month. before taking out the monthly contract i was a PAYG customer for 3 years regularly updating my phone and topping up at least £20 a month.

I have had no problems with the service recieved, and the contracts offered have always been good value and provided me with a choice of handsets and options..... untill recently that is!

The reason i have now decided to leave O2 is because they are basically giving me no choice.

The contracts are no longer competative and the choice of handsets is currently by far the worst on the market. If you dont want a iPhone there is very little to chose from, and what is on offer is outdated.

My last contract expired in May, i enquired about the iphone but for what i wanted it was to expensive and decided against taking the contract but was willing to wait for new options to arrive and switched to the £20 simplicity to fill the gap in contracts and see what O2 would have done once the second quater came to and end.

What they did was nothing! There are very few new desirable handsets and nothing has been offered to me by O2 (basically i think their is little interest in holding onto customers who dont want an iphone or something similar). So basically i have only one option left move to orange or vodaphone and actually get some choice.

Im pretty dissapointed i dont really want to leave O2 but there is nothing on offer i want and no sign of this changing. 4 months down the line and the choice of handsets still hasnt changed.

Is anyone else finding the same thing when it comes to remewing thier contract??

I was referring to o2 moblie as opposed to broadband, people thinking they can demand a free upgrade to an iPhone 3gs when they're only 13 months into an 18 month contract etc etc etc.

Oh, my bad. I emails from that many topics I forget which ones are where tongue
I see your point though. They should do research before buying anything, their fault if they don't.

Well ive been with o2 since god knows when ....early days of BT cellnet when they sold the philips savy. Ive probably been a customer for 15 years plus.

Well ive had exceptional service in all those years and ive had my fair share of good deals, xtra mins, early upgrades. But the past 2-3 years its got harder to get a deal that i feel ive done ok with and im happy with.

So i have 2 phone line contracts with o2 and broadband and wish to stay with them. However my upgrades are due on the 20th of oct and if i can not get a deal that im happy with when comparing to the likes of vodaphone or orange, then i would have no hesitation in leaving.

The palm pre seems to be the only handset im interested in and like many others on here i find the handset range extremely poor. Yes i also buy alot of sim free or early upgrades off ebay etc so i can swap my phone when and if i choose, but having a good choice of handsets gave me the ability to choose a desirable phone in the market and sell it if needed, to get something different, something that o2 never stocked.

But those days seem to be gone. And i havent had a courtesy phone call in over a year. The o2 treats have gone and replaced with inferior surprises.
I agree with many of you on here that o2 have simply concentrated too much on the iphone and ignored its customers who are not interested in the jesus phone.

So i hope i can get a good deal that im happy with in a couple of weeks if i decide to upgrade then. Or I hope o2 bring out a better range of phones like the new nokia x6, n900, HTC android phones pretty soon. I hope the rumour is right that o2 are stocking the HTC HD2.

Come on o2 listen to your customers, a fair deal is all that people are after.

With the success of the iphone and the way the market seems to be going o2 are apparently going to try and makes themselves 'the home of the smart phone'. This is really going to pick up once the exclusivity deal with apple is finally over. Although o2 already have the blackberry and samsung i7500 you'll soon see the palm pre and also the sony ericsson satio. They are also rumoured to be getting the HTC leo/HD2. I also wouldn't be surprised to see the nokia n97 mini/n900 appear in their range.

The future's bright, the future's oran...oops...o2 grin

foreign call centres are in fact paid a lot less money than our British counterparts and dont take unbridge with a system that is way out of yours and my control. life is unfair to them and this paragraph is a broard spectrum affair whilst you have singled out a matter. dont take umbridge it is indeed a fact that they are treated unfairly. sad but true.

Hi again,

I have now (somewhat sadly) left o2 to pastures new with t-mobile for

free HTC hero
200 mins
200 texts
unlimited internet (3gb allowance)
for £25 on 18m

In the end o2 could not give me a phone that I wanted. I found that the discounted tarrifs they offered were actually pretty good but I was not (personally) willing to shell out the cash to buy a galaxy (£165 on the discounted tarriff).

Please don't misunderstand this post. I'm not complaining about o2 not offering a good enough deal to stay they just could not offer me a handset that I wanted at a price I was happy to pay. My choice to leave for something else rather than being pee'd off with the service.

I would be happy to return to o2 as a provider in the future...

Wish me luck with t-mobile - can't wait to get my hands on my hero when I get home tonight! slight_smile

I think i may be joining you on O2 for the same reasons. I cant get the handset i want from O2. That was the N97, but i did without and stuck with O2. But now i really want the N900 so i think within the next month or 2 i will also be jumping to TMobile as i dont think O2 are going to have it. Pity as apart from their lack of handsets, their service is excellent.

The N900 looks quite good but I think O2's upcoming offerings will give Nokias (soon to be) flagship device a run for it's money.

It's already got the iPhone 3GS as well all know. It has just launched the HTC HD 2 which is looking very slick and the Palm Pre. The Palm Pre definitely looks like an impressive piece of kit so I think O2 haven't done too bad.

They've also just announced that they will be the first UK carrier to begin deploying LTE (4G) so we'll see improvements in voice but most importantly data speeds/reliability. Sure it'll be complete in 2012 but I think it's something to look forward to.

T-Mobile, as far as I know, only have one good handset and that's the HTC Hero, which, even *with* the new firmware, is still using lagging behind in certain departments.

Hi there, you left to go to another network? I did think about leaving but have since found some pretty good deals on the sim only tarrif.
I wish you all the best and think you could be right you may return at some later date. I must admit I left orange in 1998 and didn't ever feel tempted to go back it seems vodafone and o2 offer some of the best deals at the moment.
Unless as you say you have to shell out for the handset of your choice.
Get it insured though at least for the first six months to be safe as dont forget you pay for your phone in the deal.
Happy phoning and texting and roaming.

Well got on the phone to o2 yesterday and asked about future products and that there range seemed a little limited at the moment.
These are the products that are coming.

Sony ericsson satio 19th oct
Sony ericsson aino end of oct
palm pre friday the 16th
HTC HD2 19th OCT
Blackerry bold 2 towards end of november

Plus Samsung Zinnia, omnia HD and samsung Genio (never heard of it) are all in the pipe line very soon.

Lovely lady on the phone and excellent service. So hopefully ill be sticking around for a few more years as it looks like o2 maybe turning the corner from being iphone influenced.

She also told me however that there were no plans to get the nokia n900 or nokia x6. Well at least she had heard nothing and they werent even listed.

Well done o2 keep on going forward

well the satio , n86 , palm pre , sony aino , htc hd2 , blackberry bold2 , omnia hd are all top class smartphones

the satio is the the 1st 12mp smartphone with symbian 5th edition with sony os on top , it doesnt have a 3.5mm socket but you should see the pictures this thing takes , the gfx chip is among the most advanced ever seen ona mobile and can render gfx on par with a psp seriously google sony satio 3d gfx its amazing

the n86 is the 1st smartphone to have a wide angle lens and variable arpeteture it really has got a good lens for a camera phone and takes amazing pictures , its fast stable and v20 will add face recognition and red eye reduction plus other fixes and improovements , its packed with features and the buttons are superb to use , i really rate this phone

the omnia hd beats the n97 and iphone into the ground with its massive 3.7" screen , 1500mah battery , 3d gfx chip , 600mhz processor , brilliant gps reciever , hacking support from samsung internet communitys , good audio from the onboard dsp chip , hd vid recording which is great quality , 8mp cam , if o2 get this iam taking out another contract to get it with them, orange have had an exclusive on it but that must end soon so i hope o2 do have sense and stock it that would be great , it has amazing spec and great build quality easily one of the most powerfull smartphones of 2009

the palm pre is being touted highly allthough not my cup of tea iam sure many will like its features and from what ive seen pretty cool os its running

the iphone is going x network so expect things to get alot better --- that list of phones is an impressive range they just need to bring back 12 month contracts now like voda and orange do and id be extremley happy

the insurance service is one of the best out there in my eyes and customer services are allways top notch with me , they also seem to have a very good signal in my area

i bought the n86 from an o2 store the other day for 340 pounds , great phone , recomend it for anyone , built well , loads of features , up to 24gb memory with a 16gb card , camera is brilliant even in low light conditions , sound quality good

i sold my n97 to get it , o2 have done well not to stock the n97 , its a flop the returns rate is beyond a joke , ive had two now

the 1st was a lemon out of the box bad gps bad build quality you name it the n97 had it , so i sent it back and got myself a second new one

the second seemed all good for the 1st few months now the gps has stopped working , the battery cover squeaks , the slide has become loose , people complain they cant here me

now ive got to send my second n97 back and get a new one then iam selling it on ebay to pay for this n86 which in my eyes beats the n97 on evrything apart from screen size and memory , its much more stable , built alot better and has a better camera then the n97 , it has all the other features of the n97 and more for some reason the n97 doesnt support dnla sharing it wont connect to my ps3 but the n86 seems to have it slight_smile

o2 certainly choose the right nokia to stock out of the n86 and the n97 if they had done the n97 it would have had a high returns rate and alot of angry customers , just check out the voda forums or google n97 camera scratch or n97 gps problems i tryed to like it for around 5 months and all it did was lead me to the shop to buy another phone

i think now the iphone is xnetwork o2 will get back to how it was
