Goodbye O2

Many of you that are O2 or nothing will not understand this.
I understand that O2 have released their prices for iPhone 4 and I have to confess I haven't looked at them.

I am leaving O2 because I am totally fed up with them, orange for christ sake released prices first even though O2 know they have the greater number of customers wanting to upgrade due to exclusivity, They do not have the higher limit for data allowance.

Time has come, I have been a long time O2 customer, since long before iPhone but enough is enough - I have my pac code and i'm done.

Many of you will compare one price against another, one tariff against the other but it's more than that, I am happy to pay more for a higher data allowance, it's what iPhone 4 needs. You can argue that you haven't used 500mb before, ever but have you considered what iPhone 4 coupled with ios 4 will use? If I leave with anything know this, if you are running a 3GS on 3.1.3 then you might stay under, but iPhone 4 plus IOS 4 you won't - i'll leave you to figure it out. I have worked out that I have contributed just over £3000 over the years to O2s profits and regardless what anyone says this fiasco is enough.

My leaving is because O2 do not remotely make me feel like a valued customer, you will argue but it makes no difference to how I feel so.

I would like to thank all of the forum members here. there are some very smart people here.

Please feel free to comment how you see fit but as soon as I have hit the post button i'm gone.

Cheers

Thank you everyone

Don't worry prking I rarely go over the 500mb, but the possibility is there. I like the loyalty claims as well, as most high end contracts they want you to sign for 2 years now how can you claim loyalty for seeing out your signed for contract!! grin

I think O2 has decent tariff options and has the best coverage after vodafone in my opinion. Orange customers do get the 2 for 1 Wednesday cinema tickets thats probably one of the few perks lol

Im getting the iphone 4 on PAYG - £15 tariff cos it works out cheaper in the long run and im not tied to any contract. I'm a new iphone customer so has no clue what my data usage would be so if it is high I can also opt for the 500mb extra bolt on and still pay £20 a month which is very reasonable.

I'm worried that the posts in this thread are much too sensible...I need to get back to the diatribe and histrionics in the iphone forum!

This may sound selfish, but I'm glad the data hogs are leaving. Because it means a faster network for normal users.
What I can't understand is the people saying "I've given O2 £X,000 pounds over the years and this is how they treat me" I think you'll find that in return they gave you a mobile service, which you must have been happy with because you kept re-newing!

Lets look at it this way. The 3gb tethering option was £15 when it came out (I've had it since then) Now on the new tariffs a 1gb bolt on costs £10, and that's just on your phone not tethering on your laptop. So will the 3gb tethering option now be £30 a month?

What people seem to be ignoring is that a large portion of those 3% of abusers are most likely iPhone owners who have jailbroken their phones and are getting tethering for free. I'm not one of those but a large portion of people I know are.

The comments from the o2 exec on the blog are also misleading. o2 has grown considerably in the past few years so it's completely obvious their network usage will grow. And if they're investing a million pounds a day in their network, that's only a third of their record profits for last year.

then...why not pay out the remainder of your contract and leave asap? if you're that unhappy with the service it would seem to make sense, anyway.

I mentioned data usage, you didn't. You mentioned leaving o2. So did I. Same thing different reasons.

To be honest I would not class myself as a data hog as I often don't go over o2's new allowed limit of 500mb. But I have sometimes, I would just say I use my phone to it's full potential. Not a football fan myself but I can imagine if that limit was there now there would be quite a few went over it!

Never mind, love my 3GS and got a year to go before making up my mind although o2 signal is by far the best for me.

I think you'll find that the service has been patchy at best!

I pay a lot of money for my mobile phone and have done for some time. my contract is up July 24th, I'll be looking elsewhere, I have a work mobile on Vodafone and maybe its a coincidence that it simply out performs my iPhone in 95% of the places I use it.

As for renewing...mine was an 18 month contract. Which is nearly up for renewal. I cant see any benefits to me staying, there is no special deals or packages for existing customers that I can see.

Hey ho, to each their own.
