Even if O2 were able to trace the IP address back to an individual person, they couldn't (Data Protection Act) and wouldn't (Reputable Company) give out someone else's personal details to you.
The advice given - change passwords - is appropriate and you should follow that. Feel free to contact the Police and give them the IP address details. They'll do their own investigation.

I wouldn't have thought there is any chance you will be given the name and/or address of the IP address holder.
If you are that concerned, report it to the police and let them deal with it.

Unfortunately there is ways around security like masking your true IP and masquerading as a certain person, so it appears you were the one or someone on the same network accessed information.
If confidential information has been stolen or deleted then they should be more supportive, lock your account and transfer your details to a new one or some other type of security measure. A bit like when you get a bank account intervened with.
I don't know how secure your password was or even if a keylogger could have stole the information. Download the Rapport application which monitors your computer for background activity unless you have something similar.

Another good website, it's a good to mix up the different password types and make it long as possible. Copy the password to the clipboard then paste it into the form. This should go some way to protect your information.
Up until now, touch wood my information has not been really tampered with.

Hi
Does 02 have process for changing the possword for our pop3/SMTP service as I think this is something we should all do on a regular basis. Being hacked is really annoying and even the attempts at it irritate me.
I like unique and difficult passwords

hope that helps

I actually went through this with 'Guru' Steve and it's far from straightforward - took nearly an hour with txting and trying out stuff.
- Yes you can change via the 02 portal -> password change. However what if you are using 'linked accounts' then only one of these you can use for mobile or outlook email; the other you use just for accessing the portal.
- Also the password change form has an issue which the 02 developers are now aware of
I was impressed with the customer service tho.
