Cancel Mobile contract but keep Apple Watch contract.

I have an iPhone and Apple Watch on O2.
I’m looking at paying off my iPhone contract and then buying an iPhone direct from Apple and use a new networks sim (Sim only) in the new phone. My Apple Watch is with O2 and I’m wishing to still keep this with O2 and use with the new iPhone. I’m I able to do this? I’ve heard that with the watch being with O2, it’s linked to my O2 mobile contract and if I cancel my phone contract, I’m forced to cancel and pay the remainder due on the watch, though I’m paying 2 data contracts, phone/watch.

Cancelling the phone plan automatically cancels the watch plan and will generate a final bill for the full amount owed.

Is this just the airtime plan for the watch or the watch cost?
