Why is it that O2 charge so much for calls to Ireland (both landline and mobiles are rising to £1 pm) for pay monthly customers, when there is a pay as you go option that only charges 1p pm. This is a crazy approach and really punishes loyal customers.

As customers like yourself @Anonymous we'd have no idea why.
You can ask O2 or make a complaint about it here http://www.o2.co.uk/contactus

This link http://international.o2.co.uk/internationaltariffs/calling_abroad_from_uk currently shows calls to Ireland on Pay Monthly at 65p and £1.50 on Pay As You Go. @Anonymous where did you see the 1p pm option for Pay As You Go?

It's on the same link as you've sent under the International Sim rates. The rates change from 1st of April to £1

@Bambino wrote:Okay, I see it now. Must be some kind of promotion to get people to switch to an International sim. Doesn't say if it's a permanent change. Still, not very fair when compared to the Pay Monthly tariff.
No, it's not fair, @Bambino. Even worse if you work close to the border between Ireland and Northern Ireland - although there you do have the luxury of being able to roam onto one of the Irish networks and get your calls for free if you're O2 Pay Monthly.
Not sure how O2 PAYG works when roaming.
