Hi there,
I popped in to your Welwyn Garden City store to look at a new phone, with my father. We got in and instantly headed for the Pay As You Go section. There were two (maybe three) members of staff on at the tills.
As we was looking, one of the staff members came over and asked if we were ok or needed anything. We said 'No we are just looking'. She left us for about 10 seconds at most and then asked if we were ok or needed anything again. I said No, we are fine again. She kept bugging us and by this time we were pretty fed up. (The in store Music did not help, either).
We eventually got this woman to leave us alone and we carried on looking. About 1 minuite later, a man came up to us and asked exactly the same question. The store is quite small so all of the staff could see (and were watching) By this time, we had had enough and walked out, making sure we made all of the other customers thinking about walking into the store aware of what had happened.
Well done o2!

I do agree but I've had it before and much prefer when they come up and ask if you need any help you say no and then they say ok well I'm just over here ask me if you have any questions that way I don't feel pressurised
It's extremely easy to take control if you have a pushy salesperson. All you need to do is if they ask if you need help is to turn around what you would like them to say to you and say 'no thanks, but I know where you are if I have any questions'. You have to become the alpha. You're the one coming in to buy. You're the one with the money.
I find it a little difficult to believe that the OP went into all those other phone shops and wasn't approached by a single salesperson in any of them.
There are pushy salespeople in every kind of retail store. That's just the way it is.

I can only make comments on what @Anonymous has provided in their posts.
Each person deals with a situation differently according to their confidence and or experience.

I agree. I get put off going into some shops, but if you put on a bit of an authoritative voice then normally you find you get by ok. I've been shopping for carpets recently, you can tell someone on commision a mile away.

A good way to appease sales is to use an attractive member of staff, to subconciously make them buy something they don't want or need. So if you ever see an Apple shopstore using this technique, keep away...;-)
