Awful Service in Welwyn Garden City

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi there,

I popped in to your Welwyn Garden City store to look at a new phone, with my father. We got in and instantly headed for the Pay As You Go section. There were two (maybe three) members of staff on at the tills.

As we was looking, one of the staff members came over and asked if we were ok or needed anything. We said 'No we are just looking'. She left us for about 10 seconds at most and then asked if we were ok or needed anything again. I said No, we are fine again. She kept bugging us and by this time we were pretty fed up. (The in store Music did not help, either).

We eventually got this woman to leave us alone and we carried on looking. About 1 minuite later, a man came up to us and asked exactly the same question. The store is quite small so all of the staff could see (and were watching) By this time, we had had enough and walked out, making sure we made all of the other customers thinking about walking into the store aware of what had happened.

Well done o2!

Most of the people who work in theses stores, particularly mobile phone stores, are young and are probably being paid very little to do the job. I couldn't say for sure, but it's most likely that they can earn a small commission if they make a sale. It's only natural that they would be over zealous in their sales pitch. From the tone of the OP's post, you'd have thought they they had never experienced a high pressure salesperson, or that it only happens in O2 stores. Go into a Three store. Go into a Vodafone store. Go into a T-Mobile or Orange store and see if the same thing doesn't happen. Go into a new car showroom or a used car lot and say you're 'just looking'. See what happens.

I DO NOT WORK FOR O2

I also went into Tesco Mobile, Orange, T-Mobile, Vodafone and Carphone Warehouse and they all left us alone, unlike 02

I'm pretty sure this shop is a franchise shop, rather than an actual o2 retail store so O2 wouldn't have any baring on how their staff act as they're not employed by O2 which is a shame because their actions reflect on O2.

As a franchised store you are even more likely to get hounded to buy something...
I must have been a slow sales day to get hounded by all of the store staff slight_smile

A lot more went to franchise at the end of last year. There are around 450 stores in total and 177 of those are franchised out.
