Hey guys was just wondering if anyone can give me any news on 4G coming to my area in Fife, Scotland. I have been looking for any news for the last month or so but sadly came up with no results. Can anyone give me some sort of time frame?

Hello Jaaamess

Welcome to the forum.

You can keep looking at your Mast Service Status via your postcode here -> http://status.o2.co.uk

Unfortunately O2 won't / can't give out their 4G plans.

All you can do is ensure your using a 4G SIM card (it says 4g on it) and be on a 4G Tariff and compatible handset so your ready at your end.

This is about as good an answer as you're going to get from O2 at the moment. They aren't all that forthcoming with rollout information: http://www.o2.co.uk/connectivity/network-coverage/the-next-big-thing

Don't hold your breath

Unfotunately, Fife is not mentioned in the plans yet https://www.aerial-telephones.co.uk/aerial/o2s-continuing-4g-rollout/

That's a very good link @MI5

According to this link http://www.o2.co.uk/coveragechecker Fife doesn't even have 3G yet, so 4G must be a distant dream for the OP. :slight_frown:

I would guess it's 3g by end of 2017 at best then.....?

Haven't O2 promised 4G to 98% of the population by then?

It depends @Anonymous on your interpretation. Previously the understanding was that 98% of the population would get 2g AND 3g AND 4g but lately I have seen things written that state 98% of the population will have service via 2g, 3g OR 4g.

Not specific to o2 but across the networks.

O2 have an obligation to meet a minimum of 2mbps download speed by whatever means they see fit so it will be either 3g or 4 g.....

Thanks for clarification @MI5. Of course it remains to be seen how o2 will measure 2mbs given the capacity issues. One might have a 2mbs or above connection but if there is insufficient capacity. .....
