Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi

i need to unlock my iPhone 5 in order to upgrade to an iPhone 5S which has been given to me. I can get the PUK code, but not sure if that's what I need.

Can anyone advise?

Thanks

By the way, your new phone (5S) takes the same sim as the 5. Can't you just put your old sim in your new phone...if remaining on the same network and tariff? @Anonymous

You only need to unlock the phone if you want to sell it on as an unlocked phone.
It's not a requirement of upgrading.
Do not attempt to use the PUK as the process is completely different for an iPhone. It's all done on Apple's servers.

Hi

Thanks for the advice. The new phone wouldn't accept my SIM and said i needed to unlock the old phone and to contact the service provider.

I tried tat unlocking page but didn't find anything helpful there...

What network is the new phone locked to? You need to ask the previous owner and probably have to instigate the unlock from that network. Thing is this ....if both iphones were on the O2 network, the sim would have worked by taking out of old phone and putting into new phone.....

It's not the old phone that needs unlocking (unless you want to sell it) It's the new phone which needs to be unlocked

You need to contact the network that the new phone is locked to.
Not something o2 can do for you, sorry.
