both my iphone and my wife's iphone have recentky been replaced with new iphones and are both now using eSim as part of the iPhone transfer process. However, we have both noticed we are unable to send SMS text messages, message 'not delivered' after trying to send as a green txt message!

do we require some new sms settings?

These are all the steps to try:

To fix an iPhone that can't send SMS messages, check your network connection, restart the device, and verify your phone number in settings. If these steps don't work, try disabling and re-enabling iMessage,
Basic checks:
  • Restart your iPhone: A simple restart can fix temporary glitches.
  • Check network connection: Make sure you have a cellular signal. You need mobile data or Wi-Fi Calling to send SMS messages.
  • Toggle Airplane Mode: Turn Airplane Mode on, wait a few seconds, and then turn it off to force a new network connection.
  • Update iOS: Go to Settings > General > Software Update and install any available updates.

Messages settings
  • Verify your number: Go to Settings > Phone > My Number and ensure the number is correct. If not, update it.
  • Disable and re-enable iMessage: Go to Settings > Messages > iMessage and turn it off. Restart your iPhone, then turn iMessage back on.
  • Check "Start new conversations from": In Settings > Messages > Send & Receive, make sure your phone number is selected.

Advanced troubleshooting
  • Check iMessage status: Visit the Apple System Status page to see if there are any known issues with iMessage or other related services.
  • Reset network settings: Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset [Device] > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This will erase all current network settings, including Wi-Fi passwords.
  • Contact o2.
  • Check for blocked contacts: Ensure the number you are trying to message is not blocked in your contacts or by your carrier.

Have you got "send as sms" enabled in message settings?

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.
Please select the post that helped you best and mark as the solution. This helps other members in resolving their issues faster. Thank you.

thank you for your comments above, unfortunately I had already tried majority of the things on your check list and still after validating all of the above, we are unable to send SMS. Sounds like I need to try and get somewhere directly with O2 maybe.
