Looking at getting a data only sim for my iPad Mini 6.

Im I better going for a pay as you go data sim or pay monthly.
Would not be using data on my iPad every day as would be mostly using wifi in the house or at my sisters. Unlike my phone where I use data when out and about.

Have looked at data only sims before.
I see o2 pay and go still only offers 4g and my iPad Mini 6 can use 5g.

You will have to be on contract if 5g is important to you and available where you are but PAYG is probably cheaper for occasional use.

If your data use on the iPad will be occasional and if you have plenty of data on your 'phone, using your 'phone as a hotspot might possibly be a solution ?

Be very careful using your phone as a hotspot as prolonged use can damage the battery due to a higher drain put on it.

Battery life is also significantly shortened.

In all honesty, I can't see O2 offering any PAYG tariffs in the future.

They are more likely to drop PAYG as it's not profitable and they have a 50% share in giffgaff which does the same thing.

I think that O2 also have a 50 per cent share in Tesco Mobile who likewise have a very good PAYG offering.

Which only goes to reinforce the probability of PAYG being dumped.

Have been with o2 well over 16 years now and have been mostly on pay and go and have had mostly the same number.

Would hope o2 keep pay and go.

Have heard Tesco mobile customer service not to be the best.

Also Gifgaff seem ok and have some good deals.

Sky Mobile that also use the o2 network are not the best as my sisters friend has Sky Mobile and says 5g is not much better than the 4g she used to have.

Sky also do not offer PAYG @darrenney02

giffgaff don't have 5g yet, but they do offer esim options.

I expect they will get 5g in the short term too.
