it will switc between 4g 3g and 2g data when in range and in order of speed 4g 3g 2g
O2 have aligned all 4g and 3g tariffs, go for 4g and use it when in a 4g area

Hi
Yes, if you go for 4G tariff, it will switch to 3G if not in 4G area.

Don't bother. Go with EE. My phone sits on GPRS all day and I'm still getting charged for 4g tariff. My smartphone is not so smart anymore.
Unless you live in the same location as the OP that is irrelevant.

You're missing my point. They asked if they would get 3G if 4G not available in the area at the time. And I agree you should. I'm paying for 4G, and expect 3G in non 4G areas, the fact is I'm not even getting 3G, so think it's very relevant.
I live in a 2g area as per my signature but my 5s connects to 3g as soon as I hit a 3g area and 4g when I hit that and on the 4g tariff (that is now no price diferance to 3g) I have my full 8Gb of data to use. (facts not fiction)
