I can't see Apple, O2 or any network admitting supplies were restricted. In short supply, yes.

On one of the 3.5 million threads posted last year , a O2 representative said that they were still waiting for their ordered allocation to arrive from Apple (but don't ask me to find that one post now - you know where the search function is and good luck :))
