I've just bought a new iPhone 5s off the Internet and I've upgraded to an O2 sim only tariff. On the letter it said it had no number and in the left corner of my phone it says no service all the time. What should I do?

I have a feeling that all he needed was a sim swap and he has done it ....No need to come back , as it's now resolved.

Not sure about that...as they went offline before the sim swap advice was posted......but that's probably me just being pedantic
