iPhone 5C - can't send texts

Anonymous
Not applicable

I have done a SIM swap from my old iPhone 3gs to a new iPhone 5C. I find I cannot send out texts! Only by using  iMessage (Wi-Fi). I can make phone calls, but all texts are 'not delivered'. I am a PAYG customer. I have tried re-setting my Message Center Number to +447802092035 but with no success. I also notice that when I power the phone off, this message Center Number changes to the Pay Monthly number +447802000332.

I have cleaned the SIM, tried turning IMessage off, and also reset Network Settings, all to no avail.

Help!

It's definitely due to the wrong type of account sim card - you have a pay monthly sim at the moment so you need to sim swap again but this time to a PAYG sim card.

Hi

You have the wrong SIM card type if it's reverting back to the pay monthly number.

Pop into your O2 shop and ask for a blank Payg SIM card and perform the swap again.

I'm assuming you have a text allowance in your Payg tariff and or credit to send texts.

Try turning airplane mode off and on to help reset your connection to the O2 network. Also it can up to approx 24 hours for all services to return after a sim swap.

If it continues after this and or when you get a Payg SIM card then contact Cs on 4445.

Solved!

Solution was to obtain a PAYG SIM card, I had been given the wrong (pay Monthly) one by the shop! I was not aware there were different SIM cards.

Thank you to all those who helped me on this!

It's a pity the o2 customer services (phone) and the O2 Guru's (internet) were not aware that this could happen. As I spent time on the phone and had live internet conversations with 5 different Gurus that lasted well over an hour! They took me through all sorts of things to try to solve the problem including resetting my Network settings on my phone which lost me the network! This meant I had to manually enter the correct settings. Nobody suggested that I may have the wrong SIM!

Thanks again!

The phone reads the message centre number from the sim card which was why it kept reverting to the monthly setting. Many customers have had this problem due to receiving sim cards sent out in error. I can't understand why Gurus and stores and even some customer service advisers don't pick up on this straight away. It's always the first thing that springs to mind on the community.

Yes, unfortunately still one of the most common problems we see.

@Toby worth feeding this back to CS ??
