Problems unlocking iphone 4 on itunes help !

HI!

I have had my iphone 4 successfully unlatched with o2, as I now live overseas and need to use a foreign sim. The next step i was told to insert the non-o2 sim, plug into itunes and will receive prompts to complete the process, however when i plug it in nothing happens on itunes!

And the phone still says 'locked sim', and asks for a 3 digit unlocking pin.

Please let me know if yuo can help, greatly appreciate it!

I haven't tried putting my O2 sim in but will try now

I hadn't realised that the iPhone 5s and iPhone 4 have different size sim cards.  Should the nano sim still work in an iphone 4?  Probably a stupid question but I don't know about these things.

I have to go and pick up a relative from the hospital now, so may be a while.
