I've got a secondhand iPhone 4S (which was bought preowned from a Game store) which I'm using on my O2 contract currently. I'm thinking at some stage of getting an iPhone 5 or 5c and selling the 4S at some stage in the future. I've filled out the online form to see if it can be unlocked but just recieved an email back saying I've not passed their security checks with the information I've provided (which is all correct as far as I know). I'm guessing it would need the previous owner's details rather than mine (which I obviously don't have)?
Can only the original owner of the iPhone unlock it via O2 or is there any way I can get it unlocked this way? I know there are lots of online unlockers, shops, market stalls, 'friends of friends' etc. but would rather get it done legitimately and properly.

Hi, thanks for the reply, I'll try again. It asked me about a password that isn't my password to log into O2 here - could be I'd got that wrong.

I couldn't find the password in there, just a link to change what it is.
However, I have managed to get it unlocked! Last night I clicked on the 'forgot password' link, entered my security details and resubmitted the form. This morning, I had an email confirming my iPhone is now unlocked, just needed to connect the phone to iTunes with my wife's Vodafone sim in it and it now appears to be unlocked!
Brilliant stuff, unlocked and didn't cost me anything either, very pleased. Thanks for your help everyone!

I had the same problem with my password and it took me a couple of goes to get my phone unlocked.
Glad you're sorted!
