I recall you have an iPhone 5.
Try a reset by holding the top sleep wake button and home button until the apple logo appears and then let go of both. The iPhone will reset.
If that does not work try Settings, General , Reset, Reset All Settings.
Perform a backup to iCloud and or iTunes and perform a restore.
If that fails it could need to be looked at by an Apple Genius Bar.

I have come across people in my local Apple Store who have visited and started their sentence with " I have a problem with my iPhone , but it's out of warranty"
The specialist said , Let's take a look anyway.
Also Apple do offer an out of Warranty Service ,but at a cost. 😞
