Picture messages not sending/being received

Been on live chat with O2 guru for ages this morning trying to get this sorted...no luck!  Picture messages not sending on my Iphone 4s iOS 7.1.1. He's had me trying all sorts of different settings then told me to go into a store as by the time he'd finished i had completely lost the option to text a picture at all. Can anyone help? It has got to be a setting somewhere....i kept texting 2020 'active' and it kept telling me i hadn't got an iphone!  This isn't happeing all the time-sometimes i can send pictures which is what i don't understand...also visual voicemail not working & someone at work said this means settings are wrong?

Any help appreciated 🙂

So you've spoken to Cs on 202 and asked them to re provision your account for mms ?

Hi smudgebiscuit

Please forgive me for saying this but having 3g turned on and being connected to it may be two different things. Are you able to check if you are actually connected to 3g or 2g?

Please note I am certainly not trying to patronise either with this post. Genuinely trying to be helpful but see how it may be taken the other way.

Intermittent faults are the worse ones to solve.
The only suggestion I have is to get CS to reprovision MMS on your account.
This means they have to remove it and then reapply it 24 hours later. You also need to wait a further 24 hours after this for the system to update fully.

Just read another forum thread about using airplane mode on/off......did that and realised my 3G is intermitent and when it's properly on i can send and receive MMS but then it quickly reverts to GPRS...so must mean i need CS to re apply some kind of setting on my phone then?

I was prompted to use live chat via mobile when i rang 202 but they just went through all the same settings as the other 2 gurus this morning.

Sounds to me like you may be in a 2g area where you are (possibly on the edge of a 3g area).

MMS are either very slow or fail to send / receive in many 2g areas.

You could manually set your phone to 3g only but then your call and text signal may then become intermittent. You could change setting to 3g only when sending MMS and then putting your network connection back to all variants straight after?

You can check your postcode here to see if there are any issues with 3g and how strong the signal is http://status.o2.co.uk/
