O2 shop refused a sim card

Just wondered if anyone else had encountered an awkward assistant in an O2 shop.

I have ordered an iphone 6 and wanted to make sure I had a 4G nano sim for when it arrived. I asked my partner who was passing an O2 shop to pop in and collect one. Ive done this many times before and they give you an inactive sim card.

Well the assistant refused point blank and said that they had to do the sim swop in the shop and they can only do it if the account holder is present. I even spoke to here on the phone and she just kept going on and on about security. Yes that would be an issue if they activated the sim card to my number but not just giving an inactive one. She wouldnt have any of it.

I called CS and they were at a loss to understand why she wouldnt give my partner an inactive sim card. Anyway as it turns out there is a sim card in the box with my iphone 6 and he could tell me the sim card number.

Incidentally he also thought that if MyO2 showed a parcel number I should get it tomorrow:)

Great service via Chat - crap service in the O2 shop!

'Life is like a box of chocolate, you never know what you might get?', indeed it's not possible to please everyone & customers don't like being told "No". However, i was shocked to experience the lack of interest & stupidity at my local O2 store. Already with O2, contract fulfilled, & wanted new iPhone. Told not possible as a I'm with O2-online (current phone upgraded online with O2 because no stock in shop), she was 'not allowed' to phone cust svc as i'm with O2-online not O2. I phoned O2, & in 10 mins - Upgrade! Done! Btw, the store info was completely false. There's more! New phone came in 2 days. Sorted? of course not! Too easy! Existing Sim too big! Phoned O2, could send one, 2 days max, however suggested i go to my local O2 shop, pick up a new SIM, put it in, phone back, register Sim & my number will allocate to new Sim, (usually less than 1 hour). O2 store, Nano Sim available, can't have it as I didn't get new phone with them. After a little protest, Manager gave me the Sim, but couldn't find the 'Apple Sim Extraction Tool' & using a 'paperclip' will void warranty. The 'O2 Guru' may have a solution, but at lunch, back in 40mins. Took Sim next door Carphone Warehouse, borrowed pin, Sim in, called O2. Number changed in 20mins. Where do these MORONS come from?

Hi KwanKwan

What an experience !

Can't do this and can't do that !

I've walked into O2 shops many a time and walked out with blank SIM cards and sim card adapter kits and haven't been asked if I was actually with O2.

If a person uses something else other than the sim tray extraction tool ,and causes damage then it's up to them and apple to sort.

One tip is if an Apple Store is nearby they all typically keep on of these lanyard around their necks.

Seems you came across some jobsworths. 😉

If I was the area manager responsible for that store I would want to know about your experience.
You can official register your complaint (if you wish to) on this link http://www.o2.co.uk/how-to-complain
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

A real pity that it took CPW to sort out the final problem....

Proving yet again how many problems are being generated by O2 service staff... It is really time tthey all started to sing from 'the same hymn sheet'....

Worth a try.....they have proved they can't do customer service so choral singing may be more up their street.
