Thanks Piperdog123. Yes I do use TUGO but it wasn't running at the time. And I was definitely connected to wifi and not using my phone overnight. What I am certain of is that there were no apps running in between 13:01 and 13:53 when I had allegedly used 800MB of data- I had shut them all down prior to adding the bolt-on. Seems really extreme and I'm puzzled there's no way of checking this. I'm off to the apple store on Wednesday to see if anything can be done; not optimistic though....seems like everyone just shrugs their shoulder and says "tough luck mate!"

This is a speculative post, and I hope its not the case, but...
Could it be that something was running last night which took you over your data limit and then some? You have recieved the text to say you have went over your limit. You have then added 1Gb of data but that has only covered the remainder of the data that was used last night that was over your limit?
How to explain this better?
Emmm...so say you had 1Gb of data. Something decided to use 1.2Gb of data. This took you over your data limit and so you got a text to say you had reached your limit. You then added another 1Gb but the 200Mb left over from last night was taken away from your new limit.
I know what I'm trying to say but don't feel like I'm even making any sense! Anyone else understand?

I understand iPhone turns wifi to sleep mode overnight.
All iPhones switch off WiFi when the screen is locked, unless they are connected to a charger, in which case WiFi will continue to run.
