Keeping Same Number

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi,

I've had a Blackberry on a pay-monthly two year contract, that's scheduled to end on Tuesday. I therefore ordered an iPhone 5s on Friday on pay-monthly, which is scheduled to be delivered tomorow. Despite changing phones, I want to keep the same number, and was wondering how this proccess works?

Thanks.

When you perform any upgrade with o2 the account just changes in this case data type and new monthly amount you always keep your number with an upgrade.

P.s. if you were not changing sim size then you woiuld just use the old sim with the new upgraded phone. But as this is to iphone you need the swapmysim as mentioned

iPhone 11 Pro 256gb on unlimited data
iPad Pro 12.9” 2020 256gb refresh o2 family discount
Apple Watch series 4
My first mobile was in 1995 a CM-R111 from sony on Cellnet.

Perform a swap my sim procedure.

This will move your number and tariff over from your old sim to the nano sim.

Apologies forgot to add the link !

http://swapmysim.o2.co.uk/

A new nano sim should come with the iphone.

If it does not then any o2 highstreet store keeps them instock or ask o2 to post one to you.

If you have to go to the 02 store then they will do the swap for you.

Here is a help link about changing from Blackberry to iOS.

There are a few more to look at if you would like to use Google / YouTube.

Edit : Wrong link used.

Once initiated the swap procedure can take upto 24 hours to complete. Both you old and new sim cards will go offline at some point in the process. Rebooting the phone with the new sim in may help speed the process for you.

Thanks for the info.

Regarding the 'swapmysim' procedure, what mobile number do I type in for 'Step 1'? My Blackberry Number, or my new iPhone number?

Hi

I think you need to put your BB number in step 1 and in step 3 the serial number of your new sim.

Thanks.

Finally, the taffric includes 1GB worth of data per month. So any tips on making sure I don't over-run this? For example only using apps such Facebook, Twitter etc when connected to WiFi or?

Hi

I have the 5s myself

What I do is, I make sure mobile data is switched off when using wifi as some apps, inc FB, (read than on an Apple forum) prioritize mobile data over wifi so when you download your apps, make sure mobile data is off even when connected to wifi.

Also, at night the iPhone goes into the sleeping mode, which means it will use mobile data if on instead of wifi so again make sure it's off as sometimes apps update at night and you might use mobile data more quickly.

Another thing, make sure the apps are closed when you finished using them, as they do run in the backround, click the home button twice and swipe upwards to close all the apps.

Hope this helps!
