? Keeping Old iPhone.

Hi All,

I'm using the iPhone 5 and I'm due for an upgrade very soon and I shall be upgrading to the iPhone 6. When I've got the 6, I'm not sure whether to sell the iPhone 5 or keep it? The only reason I am thinking of keeping the 5, is just in case something goes wrong with the 6 when I've got it, and then I've got a backup iPhone!

I have O2 premier insurance with the 5 and will still want the insurance for the 6. I shall also be getting the 6 from my local O2 store.

My nature for this post is, I wondered what other users of iPhones do when they upgrade to the latest version? Do they sell or give away their old iPhone or keep it!

Any advice will be appreciated!

Liam.

I sell mine back to apple to help fund my next iPhone purchase. This can be done in an Apple Store.

You could unlock the iPhone 5 to all networks to increase its street value or to let someone use it in another network.

Thought you used CEX?

It depends on which avenue offers the best return @jonsie

Makes good business sense.

I sold the iPhone 5 to buy the iPhone 5s.

In the thread you kindly pasted in dated 1/9/14 I did say "Last Year I sold My iPhone 5 to CEX for £250 and put the difference to when buying the 5s from the Apple Store."

This year I sold the iPhone 5s to Apple to buy the iPhone 6 plus.

Hope that clarifies for you.

That's fair enough @Anonymous

I chose the iPhone 6 plus due to my eyesight and I wanted a bigger screen.

Enjoy your iPhone 6. 😄

I always sell mine on when I get a new iPhone.

I look after my tech and when I come to sell my iPhone, its basically in mint condition, which means I get a good price for it. You might be surprised at just how much you can get for your old iPhone, especially if its mint/good condition. iPhone's and other Apple tech, tends to have a really good secondhand value.

One thing I would recommend is. Try selling your old iPhone on Ebay. In most cases, you can get a better price for it than trading them in with O2 Recycle, Apple or similar. I use Ebay as a guide to see how much my iPhone is worth. iPhone's that are unlocked, tend to be worth a bit more, due to them been available to a wider audience of buyers. If you don't choose to sell on Ebay, it might be worth checking on there, just to see how much less Apple, O2 Recycle or similar are giving you.

I tend to get around three quarters of my money back off of the sale of my old iPhone against the cost of my new iPhone.

Hi Everyone,

Thank you all for your replies, it's been appreciated!

I have decided to keep my iPhone 5 when I get the 6. As many have suggested, you never know when you might need it.

That's par for the course wink I have taken my second phone to Spain with me every time I go. I charge it up...(send one text to keep it activated) and have never needed to use it.

If I didn't take it however......I bet I know what would happen slight_frown
