Help needed re setting up iphone 4s to receive voicemail notifications

Hello Forum!

New to 02.  Can anyone help me figure out why or if it is possible to fix the following so it 'works'. It may of course not work?

Using an iphone 4s. When at home I only want to use the wifi with the phone, so I switch off the 3G settings to conserve battery power and to make sure I don't inadvertently use the 3g to send a photo message when I think it is on the wifi. When the phone is on wifi and someone calls and leaves a message there is no notification that someone has called and left a message.  I do get the missed call little number in circle appear over the phone symbol but what I want to know is if they have left a message or not.  I believe from what o2 chat operatives say that I should be getting a text message to say ' you have voice mail or something similar... but I don't get anything like that.  So is this because of some conflict with the Visual voice mail thing?  Anyway I have spent several hours on the chat with various o2 operatives, all very polite and nice, but they don't know the answer. The first one said he would refer to technical team and they would email me within 24 hours, they haven't done this. The following day the second nice operative said I would get a call back, I haven't got one of those either.  I would like to resolve this, have an answer ideally today, so wondering if anyone here knows the answer? thanks in advance. 1 Photo mms need cell data

2 just turning 3g off is not going to stop 2g cell data ond only use wifi

3 if on pay monthly iphone then vvm will replace the sms alert and a number appears on the voicemail icon in the phone app

To only use wifi you need to turm off mobile / cell data. (but visual voice mail will also stop)
