iPhones switching automatically when they go into sleep mode is nothing more than a money making exercise. How can it save battery life when the Apple site says the exact opposite?

Here is a direct quote from the Apple website:

https://www.apple.com/batteries/maximizing-performance/

I quote:

"There are two simple ways you can preserve battery life — no matter how you use your device: adjust your screen brightness and use Wi-Fi."

And:

"When you use your device to access data, a Wi-Fi connection uses less power than a cellular network — so keep Wi-Fi on at all times."

It's an issue that Apple cannot fix so they try and sell it as a feature.
To the OP, just turn off mobile data when using wifi or buy an Android phone slight_smile

Absolutely ridiculous. How could unknowingly using up your data as a result of an issue that can't be fixed be touted as a feature? New users must be completely unaware that the phone does this, and possibly some long term users as well.

I can only relate to how I've noticed that when my iPhone screen is asleep and I press the home button etc ,you can see the symbol in the status bar flick from 3G/4G back to Wifi. This does not happen every time so it's possible Wifi kicks in intermittently. Google searches brings this situation up reaching back years. I personally would much prefer how Android handles these connections.

I admit to being technophobic but I have seen this relating to Iphones before?  "Switching automatically when they go into sleep mode". Sorry but what on earth is the point of that?

So to stop it completely you would have to turn your phone OFF? Sorry if I have got this wrong but as this thread is covering the issue ...it is important for me to know why....Smiley Embarassed

I'm not an iPhone person (thankfully) but I believe that in order to stop it you need to make sure mobile data is completely turned off.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. O2 and most likely all the other networks must love this 'feature'. If you have a low data tariff and keep wasting your data because of this, you either have to buy a bolt-on, or increase your tariff. Either that or you have no data available when you need it.

Given that o2 only really seem interested in iPhone to the exclusion of everything else you have to ask the question whether the networks have requested this from Apple? ??
