I now have a problem which isn't detrimental, but quite annoying. When I send him a text from new phone with new sim and number transferred, not only does the text go to his phone, as it should do, but I get the text on my new phone as if someone else has sent it to me, any help to resolve this please?

Delete the apple I.d from the old iPhone and ask him to input his own.

From memory as I don't have an iPhone in front of me, you need to tap Settings and then in turn go to iMessage, App Store and iCloud and sign out of each then sign in with his own AppleID
