I've upgraded to a new phone ( Samsung Fame)and o2 have just text me to say I've used up all my data!!

Since discovering that you have to turn off the mbile data button I've only turned it on to use whatsapp.

Will I not be able to use whatsapp now til my new allowance?? I never had this with my old phone! What's been using up all the data??

Look in the settings menu and see what has used your data then remove those apps from the phone. This will stop them from using any data at all.

Hi and Welcome to the forum,

Use wifi or add a data bolt on via MYO2.

Are you on contract or payg

If your on contract then O2's TuGo is an option too.

Check in your phones settings for the data counter to see whats being using your data.

Edit : Yes you can use WhatsApp over available WiFi.

Smartphones are designed to constantly update apps in the background and typically use around 200mb a month just by doing that and nothing else.
If you want to use the phone to it's full extent you need at least a 500mb bolt on but preferably a 1gb bolt on.
Wifi is an option to save mobile data if you can connect to a wifi signal when at home or when out in major towns/shopping centres etc.
If you are on a low data allowance keep mobile data turned off unless you want to use it.

No as whatsapp requires a connection either by the mobile network or wifi.

You could use free wifi in shops or as i said add a data bolt on via MYO2.

No, you need a data connection, either mobile or wifi for whatsapp to work.

Do as you have done and turn mobile data off when not required.

And use public wifi when you can.

What data allowance do you currently have ?

As i say you can add a data bolt on or think about increasing your data allowance within your monthly tariff.

Go to your playstore, then go to settings in the top right hand corner and then make sure "auto-update apps" is on Wi-Fi only.
