If it comes back when you are walking to the shops, could it be a problem with a mast in your area? You can check the network status online via O2 website.
Have you tried cleaning the sim card? Even better, pop into an O2 store and ask them to sim-swap you whilst you wait. You can request it online but I did it in store a few months ago and walked out of the store 10 mins after walking in with my phone already working again.
Failing this, you could request an unlock code from O2, then unlock the phone and try another network sim card in it, just to see if the problem is O2 or the phone.
