Sony Z1 Screen repair!!

Anonymous
Not applicable

Not the best start to the day, Phone sitting on kitchen work top in cover with protective case on. I open cupboard and out falls a herb bottle. Falls on phone, I don't think anything of it and put it back in cupboard.

Soon after I realise touch screen not working and see screen is reacting funny, take of protective screen cover and lo and behold the jar has created a tiny dent/smash in the screen, So tiny at first I thought it was a little splash mark I tried to pick off.

Phone screen now not working, quite surprised it could break so easily to be honest but it has so I need to work out what to do.

I am insured, but insurance literally just taken out this month and I can't believe I might have to claim already! I know from my Iphone days I just went to a little shop in town, paid £20 and screen was fixed with no problems. In fact that phone is still going strong and will be my back up until I fix this.

Does anyone know if these mobile phone shops are able to fix a Sony screen? I will phone around them but just as Iphone is the main player I wonder if they bother with the likes of a less popular phone Cat Sad

You run the risk of voiding the remaining manufactures warranty if work is carried out by unapproved engineers.

Either contact the manufacturer direct or use your insurance. That's what it's for. wink

What's the point in taking out insurance if you don't use it? Didn't you take it for just this sort of thing happening?

The insurance is tied in with a new bank account, which I opened 3 weeks ago. It is there so I guess your right I should just go through them, I will call them.

I am not entireley impressed with my Z1, the toggle parts that make it water proof have already had to be replaced and my iphones with stood much more than a plastic chilli bottle falling on them! Plus they still worked with a small crack, this is totally goosed! Crazy

It's swings and roundabouts. Mine survived a dive from on top of my car when I drove off. Not many will survive what happened to you.

Insurance should cover it.

I don't suppose anyone knows a way to unock the Xperia screen withouth having a functiioning screen...probably not! 😞

of course now that I read the process of what they need to do I am so happy with myself that I cancelled my phones 4 u insurance that would have given me a replacement handset whilst my phone went off for repair.... really sensible move!

Thank goodness for old iphones to see me through!

The toggle parts on my Sony Z have perished as well, they obviously can't stand up to being opened and closed that often.

As for the screen, it might have had a few small knocks along the way and over a little bit of time caused it to weaken. I agree you're best to get it done through the insurance, you don't want to risk your warrenty being voided.

A bit of a worry with those toggle parts since they are the main bits that are meant to be make it water proof!

So unlucky!!

I always put my phone face down now. (In a case + screen protector)

Never know what madness could happen.

I shall remembee that tip, it must have just hit it at the right angle.

I can't get the screen to unlock which means I can't back up the phone. The insurance company were fine but explained they will reset my data so I will lose everything. I backed it up a wee while ago but still ..... frustrating!
