I've had mine for months and have not had to even take the back off. Sorry. Did you activate the dropbox function?

yip but its been connected to my work account, and it has been since i had the mobile do you think that might have something to do with it?

If you log in to your dropbox a/c, it may have a copy of your messages. I'm not sure. I know that all my photos are copied to there and that my contacts are all copied to my live a/c. Good luck. My bed is calling. 🙂

It's not just you, I'm having this too! I rang o2 and their response was "you've had your phone less than 28 days so we'll just send you a new one". I don't want to go down that route if the new one is going to do the same thing once updated, so am considering doing a factory reset (sooooooo annoying when I've only had it less than 2 weeks so will be restoring settings that I've only just set up, but hey). Please let me know what your Guru says as not having text messaging is inconveniencing me a heck of a lot (hard to explain but personal reasons why I absolutely rely on it and a vulnerable person is at risk while ever this continues!).
I tried clearing the cache from the messaging app to but to no avail.
