I guess what im asking, is what's the best way to use data whilst there?

Not going to be using a lot, but might log in a couple of days whilst im there, as it is my birthday and i dont want to be rude and ignore people sending me birthday wishes, the joys of social networking eh lol

You get 15mb a day (contract) or 25mb a day (payg) for £1.99 (standard O2 European travel charges). If it's only occasional use this would probably be your cheapest option.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Does it automatically activate the charge as soon as you turn on the data?

Yes, you will receive a text as soon as your phone registers in a European country.

Yes, of course. The text will confirm you will get charged £1.99 for 15mb daily and you only get charged if you turn data on. Your calls back to UK will cost you 50p for one hour (re-dial after one hour to avoid additional charges). The data is valid from midnight to midnight.....

No, all wifi is independent of your contract. If it's a free hotspot it costs you nothing however, some will charge you to connect to their hotspot.

Cheers lads.

Strange that o2 list 'free wifi usage' on certain tariffs, intimating that they may charge on other tariffs.
