Hi

Try turning the phone off and on and clean the sim card.

Has this just happened ?

Have you sim swapped - can take up to 24 hours to settle - or ported to the 02 network ?

Check your masts http://status.o2.co.uk

Help Thread http://community.o2.co.uk/t5/Pay-Monthly-and-Pay-Go/Self-help-guide-Is-the-network-down-for-me-or-ev...

Can you try your sim in another phone as a process of elimination.

Speak to o2 on 202 contract or 4445 payg to check your account.

Sim failed, network failed or phone barred.
Try sim in another phone, check network status here http://status.o2.co.uk/ and check phone here http://www.checkmend.com/uk/

If your masts and account are ok and your sim does not work in another phone which eliminates the primary phone as an issue, then it may be worth visiting an 02 shop who will transfer your tariff and number to a new sim card.

Most likely a network issue then that lost your connection in the first place.

Just to add, keep your eye on it as it could be a sim issue.
You can get a new one at any O2 shop if the issue repeats itself.
