Not receiving text alerts from companies

Anonymous

This actually started with my Galaxy S2 and I hoped it would changed with my upgrade (Nexus 5), but for some time now I haven't been receiving text alerts from services that I signed up for: GP, prescriptions (Boots the Chemist), hair salon, etc. Maybe not earth-shatteringly important, but then it would have been useful to be reminded my hair/nail appointment yesterday was actually earlier than usual! wink

Admittedly it took me a while to realise and initially my GPs said they were having a few glitches with their new system.  However as I noticed others not coming through, it occurred to me it might be my phone.  Nothing changed on my old phone that I was aware of, I checked all my settings (I use the Handcent message app rather than the stock app) and nothing there had changed.  Someone suggested it was the phone sending them but I'm guessing (and I work somewhere that sends SMS via the IT network) that the messages originate from a 'system' rather than a phone.

Any suggestions?

You won't know unless you try a different app. Not seen any other reports of issues other than when using Tugo which can't handle short codes.

Obvious one is to not use Handcent and see if they come through the stock app OK....?

They did come thru the handcent app fine before.  Have used it for about 3 years without any major issues.  And on the new phone (Nexus 5) it's Hangouts which I don't like so don't use.

I keep having a pain with Handset, it keeps changing texts that I get into something completely different on occasion. Never occurred to me I might be missing some texts.

Tried using Hangouts and didn't receive the text messages through that either.  But I have received them from charities (donation confirmations), mail order companies (statement notifications), bank, etc., and I'm sure they don't come from individual phones any more than they do/did from GP.  I checked with my doctors on Friday and they do still send them, as do the chemist.

Could it be a restriction on my contract?

I can't think of any such restriction.
Try Go SMS and see if you receive them.
The only other thing I can think of is that the other places have got the wrong number for you?

As I note you have Android, this is unlikely but have you checked in your spam messages box?

Already checked numbers with the parties concerned. Even stood and watched my hairdresser send me a message from their PC. And I don't have a spam box on my app. Just really disappointing as I've used Handcent for best part of 5 years and never had any problems, but despite what they're telling me, this is a new issue. I just don't like any other apps as much.
