This actually started with my Galaxy S2 and I hoped it would changed with my upgrade (Nexus 5), but for some time now I haven't been receiving text alerts from services that I signed up for: GP, prescriptions (Boots the Chemist), hair salon, etc. Maybe not earth-shatteringly important, but then it would have been useful to be reminded my hair/nail appointment yesterday was actually earlier than usual!
Admittedly it took me a while to realise and initially my GPs said they were having a few glitches with their new system. However as I noticed others not coming through, it occurred to me it might be my phone. Nothing changed on my old phone that I was aware of, I checked all my settings (I use the Handcent message app rather than the stock app) and nothing there had changed. Someone suggested it was the phone sending them but I'm guessing (and I work somewhere that sends SMS via the IT network) that the messages originate from a 'system' rather than a phone.
Any suggestions?

I went to see the O2 Guru locally, and he mentioned the TPS (Telephone Preference Service) that might be blocking numbers. I had recently registered my mobile with them (certainly not as long as I've had the issue, but worth looking into). I de-registered, and lo and behold today I received a reminder message from my hairdresser. So, hopefully, problem solved.
