New Phone

I am about to buy a Samsung S4 but not from O2. Once I have bought it I want to keep my O2 account and my phone number. Can anyone give my step by step info. I'm getting on a bit (78) and although reasonably PC literate, I have no experience at all on android phones...

TIA for any help....

I have to say, it's comforting to know there is so much help out there. I have copied some pieces to Notepad so I can print them off, but I'm a bit confused over this gmail thing.

Surely, I do not have to have an account with Google to use the Galaxy S4...? That's a bit like a monopoly to far...! I am unlikely ever to send emails, but I will use Google search quite a bit, and likely keep up with the news. Other than than that, it will just be a phone.

Does this make sense?

If you never want to add an app off play store you can manage without, buy you also get free back up and online storage for all your files and photos so its worth having.... its not just about emails these days.

Hi

Whatever works for you my friend but it does appear to enjoy the phone in full a gmail account is required.

Let us know how you get on.

Ooookay! So, can I fix up a gmail account from my PC and then link up from my phone afterwards? The phone is ordered and should be here in a few days, so I have plenty of time to get ready..! slight_smile

Incidentally, I checked back and the seller describes it as a "Smartphone". Is that different...?
