Many bugs introduced with Lollipop, reluctant to factory reset

Anonymous

Only a few months back I recieved my S5 back after a repair I had to fight with o2 to get done, after I suffered a known bug with the camera completely failing.  It took what felt like days to back it up and restore everything afterwards, and I'm reluctant to do so again.

I'm curious as to whether the bugs I'm experiencing are what others are experiencing too (and hopefully a fix will be released), or if it's just me and I'm going to be forced to spend a lot of time losing and restoring data again....

(1) Device intermittently doesn't time-lock.  The screen shuts down after a minute, but for a short while (that's longer than the 5 seconds I set it up for), I can simply get back into the device without my fingerprint being required.  This is intermittent.  The device still locks straight away when using the power button.

(2) Text messages sometimes take a long time to send, in the end I switch off the screen and come back to it to see if the text was sent yet.  We're talking minutes of staring at the screen for a text to send but being stuck on 'sending'.  If I restart the device, it will turn round and say some messages didn't get sent that it said it had sent before restarting. Meaning I have to press to resend to get the exclaimation warning to go away, or be forced to delete the message and lose it form my records.

(3) After updating an app, I need to press on "move to SD card" again, on an app that was already moved to SD card.

(4) The device will often freeze for minutes on end, making me unable to do anything, even making a phone call.  This can happen at any time without warning, or the device will respond but be very 'laggy'.

(5) Device getting hot during the times that it runs slow

(6) Battery is draining.  Whether it's being used or in my pocket, within 2 hours of leaving my house it can often be around 50%.  Infact, even if I am using the device, it's reporting that the android / system, is using MORE power than the screen whilst the screen is on!!

(7) Turning off notifications from a particular app, only sees that option to get changed back by itself! I have some apps that insist on giving me annoying notifications, and in the app menu where 'move to SD card' is, pressing the 'show notifications' button only takes effect for a short while until it decides to change the option back again.

(8) Often when turning on the screen, the arrow pointing to the fingerprint reader doesn't move, and it wont read my fingerprint when I put my thumb over it.  To check that it's not just because it's frozen (again), I put my finger on the screen on things to stop it timing out, but the fingerprint reader still doesn't become available until I switch off the screen and switch it back on again!

 Edit: (added)

(9) Pressing on a notification such as a missed call, text message or facebook message, fails to get rid of the notification even when the text message is read, or the notification is pressed several times.

Been a bit of a battle the whole way.

Since the phone was really lagging, I had much difficulty in even getting Kies to connect to the phone in order to back up everything.  I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, but then for some time, for some odd reason, the reinstallation kept failing!

After it eventually started to work, I've factory resetted my phone and am now fighting with Kies still to reinstall everything.  It keeps hanging, or marking everything with an X to say restoration failed, yet if you try again it succeeds.  Now having problems just reinstalling application data, as that seems to large it will always hang before it can complete!

Just as a note to the above, an application should never be using more power than your screen when it's on, as far as i'm aware! The phone lagging has now dissapeared, but it is a shame I had to factory reset my phone for this to happen.

It will take some time of using the device to see what bugs are still present, if any.

I don't think that that is an 'error' @Anonymous , more of an omission .

Hopefully they will reintroduce the mute button on the next update, many people are up in arms about this....

Well guys, it's been a while since I reset my phone now and running a cleaner Lollipop. Here's what I've noticed:

(1) At first it was much much MUCH faster.  However after some use I'm noticing some lag spikes still.  Examples are in Google Maps and in Facebook chat (messenger), these apps can lag on my phone for around 15 seconds.

(2) The phone sometimes STILL doesn't time-lock when the screen turns itself off.  I turn on the screen after 10 seconds of the screen being off after auto-time-out, and I'm not asked for my finger print, so my phone is now not actually secure.

(3) When I am queried for my fingerprint, STILL sometimes the arrow pointing at the fingerprint reader is stationary and solid, and giving my fingerprint makes the phone do nothing.  I've even used shortcut buttons on the lock screen to keep the screen on and give it a while, it's not lag, it's just bugged out.  I have to turn my screen back off and back on again.

(4) Since the update, Kies now repeatedly FAILS to connect to my phone, and windows repeatedly says an error code 10: the device failed to start. This is after many times of also re-installing the windows drivers.  This never happened to me much until the lollipop update, so now I understand what everyone else has been complaining about.  But with this latest problem, I can't even explore the phone contents in windows explorer either.

(5) At first, notifications would dissapear as i've either clicked on them or read the message that I'm being notified about. Yesterday is the first time I've witnessed the bug reoccuring however, so I've clicked on a notification, read the message, and the notification did NOT dissapear.

(6) Updating an app is still making me move it to SD card all over again like it was before the factory reset

(7) Getting random crash reports from apps that shouldn't even be open, such as Amazon Kindle app or Shazam.  Completely at random, as and whenever it pleases. Also been getting the same from Contacts too, it stops and gives me an error about it regularly.

(8) Screen locked on me just a moment ago, whilst I was in the middle of using it.  I was scrolling down a text message list, when the screen went black, and then went onto my lock screen by itself requiring my fingerprint to unlock it again.

(9) Screen intermittently doesn't want to turn on.  Pressing the home button, first time the touch buttons (recent, back) both light up, but the screen stays blank.  Pressing the lit buttons do nothing and they go back to normal, and then pressing home button again straight after does nothing, phone looks off!! Either have to wait for the timeout, or press the power button a few times to get it working again.

The Good / Unknown:

(1) Messages have so far all been sending correctly

(2) Device is now working at normal temperatures and the android OS is back to normal hardly using any battery power.

(3) Still testing whether turning off notifications from apps that force adverts into the notification bar works.

All in all, there definitely seems to be bugs in the software even after the bug fix patch, and I hope we can get acknowledgement as to whether this is actually going to be fixed or not.

Sounds like it may need a level 2 flash which only a repair centre can do.

Confirming that whenever I update an app that is on the SD card, it moves it back to phone storage.  I had to send my phone away for repairs only a while back and they kept my phone for 2 weeks, this is going to be a NIGHTMARE if I have to send it back yet again.

😞
