Huawei P20 Pro - Unable to remove widget

Hi all,

Does anyone here own a Huawei P20 Pro?

I'm having issues removing widgets on my home screens.  As with all android devices, you usually press and hold on a widget then drag it to the "REMOVE" option at the top of the screen.  With the latest EMUI release from Huawei this seems to have disappeared.  Instead you get a "floating" remove option (see below).

But as soon as you attempt to move the widget towards this the option disappears so I'm now stuck with widgets on screens I don't want.

I've searched the web and can find no-one else complaining about this, so either I'm being stupid, or nobody else has tried.  All I can find is people posting the standard android way as a solution.

This is just one of a few nuances that I'm annoyed about with Huawei's take on android.  Great camera, fast device, great screen, but there are serious bugs in the software.

Is anyone able to help at all?

Thanks

Steve

Thanks

Steve

@welshsteve76  Have you tried to just press the remove button after you long press and hold the widget, rather than try to move it to the button?

Edit: I've also found this: https://gettechmedia.com/how-to-manage-home-screen-widgets-huawei-p20-p20-pro/

And this: https://www.huaweicentral.com/tips-and-tricks-to-master-your-huawei-p20-and-p20-pro/

Should neither of those links help, there's this: https://consumer.huawei.com/uk/support/

yeah trying to press the remove button doesn't work either. Beggards belief that Huawei would mess with this very basic android functionality

This site: https://gettechmedia.com/how-to-manage-home-screen-widgets-huawei-p20-p20-pro/

Gives the standard android functionality as the solution.  This is not the case on the Huawei P20 Pro anymore (has been previously).

Delete widgets: Touch and hold a widget on the home screen until your Phone vibrates. Drag the widget to Remove at the top of the screen.

......

UPDATE

I turned on developer options and rebooted my phone.

Now when I press and hold a widget the REMOVE option remains when I let go, allowing me to remove the widget.  I now don't know whether I should turn the developer options back off and reboot again as clearly this has unlocked some feature changed by the recent EMUI update?

Thanks

Steve

At least you're able to remove the widgets now. If you're still having problems after a reboot, Huawei support is probably the way to go. Good luck.:smileywink:

Just a "tap" on remove ?

Yeah. When I let go now, the floating "remove" stays there, and I just click on that to remove the widget

Huawei support is notoriously bad from what I've heard.

Thanks

I'm stuck with this phone for the next 16 months or so, and at the moment I want to go back to OnePlus, only reason I took this phone was because despite it having a considerably more expensive retail price, the contract was actually cheaper than the OnePlus.

Don't get me wrong, the phoen is very good, but the software itself is very buggy.  It randomly resets stuff like widgets, screen brightness, audio volume etc while you are using it.  I can be listening to music or watching a video and the sound will drop considerably, and it has reset itself to the default and asks me that stupid question and warning about volume loudness.  I get it on a reboot, but while I'm using it? Very annoying.

Thanks
