Greetings,
Having paid off the final payment on my o2 refresh, I now truly own my device and am wondering where I should ask for the Network/Bootloader unlock codes?
The device in question is a Sony Xperia Z1 and since upgrading to the Z5, I wish to repurpose the Z1 as a telephony free device, as the hardware inside is still good enough for gaming, wireless remote, etc...
That being said, in order to make the device more efficient for the reduced functionality, I need to be able to flash my own kernel, which is not possible with the bootloader unlock status set as no.
Hopefully one of you can point me in the right direction to acquiring my code.
Many thanks,
George

You can still flash a different ROM but in order to change kernel the bootloader needs unlocking first.

The question has been asked before and unfortunately it's always negative....

I guess that's a definitive ending to this question then as there is undeniably no way to do it apart from the way you have suggested

I understand them having the right to lock it whilst the device is under contract but don't see why it should be their decision after the handset is paid for.
I'm glad I came and asked this before the 14 days were up to bind into contract with the Z5, as there's no way I'm paying off another phone that I will never have freedom of choice with.
Doubt I'll ever use o2 again.
Thanks for all your answers ladies and gents, much appreciated.
