Galaxy S7 seal broken

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi I got a Samsung Galaxy S7 edge today from the O2 store.

Once I got home, I went to open it and noticed that the seal had been broken.

On opening the box I noticed that there was a finger print on the box.

I was annoyed at first, then checked everything else and everything seems ok...

I I set the phone up etc and thought it will be ok.

However now it is bugging me, got the phone 3 days before release and why was it opened?!?!

On the seal it says "Do not accept if seal is broken. Caution sealed package. If seal has been broken or tampered with, do not give clear receipt unless contents are examined in presence or delivering agent".

It is really annoying me now, I may take it back and cancel the contract as in 14 day period; unless they give me another handset which is sealed!

What do you think?

Perhaps they were needing to check the imei's or make sure they had all the o2 branding and bloatware grin

No but the fact there are so many seems very suspicious...

The OP wrote in their first post "On the seal it says "Do not accept if seal is broken. Caution sealed package. If seal has been broken or tampered with, do not give clear receipt unless contents are examined in presence or delivering agent"." That seems pretty clear to me that the box should arrive untouched, and without fingerprints on it. If that warning comes from Samsung, there can be no plausible reason why the seal is broken before the recipient gets the phone.

It's certainly odd that the seals are being broken, I had a friend purchase an S6 last year from O2 and it also arrived with the seal broken - no damage or anything though so kept it as-is.

I really wonder why so many have broken seals, I can understand people in a warehouse somewhere may want a sneak-peak at the lastest phone so they crack one open but surely this behaviour would be very few & far between.... anyway, certainly if I get another phone with a broken seal I'll bang it straight back in future as the label states do not accept if the seal is broken.

My only concern is if the seal is delivered broken, how do you go about it? - The thing is packaged in DPD plastic that needs cutting off (takes time) - the drivers are always desperate to get on with there round and do they really need the hassle of me rejecting it upon delivery, or should I accept it and then deal with O2? .... and even if I rejected it just how long would it take to sort out, I can see it becoming a bit of a process.

Anyway - I wasn't expecting many replies,  my doorstep exchange is due between 2-3 so I'll post back when it arrives!

I suppose it would be a matter of choice @Anonymous. If a driver didn't want to wait while you opened their packaging to check, and you refuse delivery because of that, they'd probably have to fill out paperwork and explain why you refused to their supervisor, so maybe they'd choose to wait while you looked.

If you opted for dealing with O2, as far as how long that might take, you would have to be able to figure out how long a piece of string is. If the phone was in high demand, they may not have enough stock on hand to do an immediate swap. Bit of a lottery, I guess.

Replacement phone has just arrived, phone was taken away & driver unpacked new phone from the dpd packaging and showed me the box is sealed/complete.

So, in theory its all good! - now time to open it and oggle it for a few hours!

Edit:

Opened - Currently not seen any damage. (woohoo!)

Inside the package, all the packaging / celleophane wrap etc all seems exactly the same as the one received from O2 prior... the only difference, the headphones were upside down in this new one Smiley Very Happy

And judging by the ease of fingerprint/dust gathering even on the cellophane it'd take a true ninja not to leave evidence of tampering behind.

it's not good that they have some going out unsealed, but I think if you don't notice anything obvious it's a safe bet it isn't someone in a warehouse pawing all over it.
