I have recently purchased a Fire Phone and, whilst it is a very impressive phone, it does not send text messages.
When I hit the send button, a warning triangle appears next to the message and it does not go anywhere.
In the 'info about my device' setting, it is not showing my phone number saying it is unable to read from sim, although the IMEI number is showing.
Could this be a dodgy sim?

Try by actually bringing up Text messages (as if you were going to send one) Click the left hand soft key and see if message centre is there?

Message centre numbers are automatically picked up off sim card for any phone, hence the importance of the correct sim .
Manual editing may be available too but it still means you have the wrong sim and the number will reset everytime the phone is switch off.
Every day I learn just a little bit more...thankyou...

This was a sim swap done at the loal O2 store. The Fire Phone is slightly different to other Android phones. You can't access settings directly from the messeges app, only through the main settings, but there doesn't appear to be any option to change the smsc. The phone seems to default to the pay monthly smsc (I tried the sim in my Galaxy, changed the number for payg, then put the sim back in my Fire phone thinking it'd be ok, but it still reverts back to the pay monthly number. Hope that makes sense.

A Pay and Go sim is what you should have been given, the correct sim will fix it.

Yes, makes sense and is what I said above.
You need to get a PAYG sim from an O2 shop.

Yeah, that's what I thought they gave me as I went from a standard sim to a nano sim with the same number etc, so I'll pop back in there. Would have been nice to be able to have changed it from the phone though. Thaks guys.
