Do I need to unlock my phone?

I have just upgraded my mobile from Huwei p20 to a P30.  I would like to give my p20 to my mum that lives abroad. Do I need to unlock my old phone? I have re set it to factory settings but don't want to post it over and find it won't work...neither of us are that IT savvy..

It may already be unlocked if bought less than 2 yrs ago. You could try a different network sim in to test it first.
