Data charges while abroad

Hi - I have recently visited Mexico and a few days into my visit I received a message saying I had reached my data limit (i had flight mode on for the first couple of days) - I had only used the free wi-fi 1 hour at the hotel so I cannot understand the charges. I couple of days later received another message telling me I had again used 48mb (or something like that) so this will go onto my next bill. The message mentioned £120 maximum charge so I turned my phone off and only back on again for occasional 5 mins to take pictures and check my children hadn't tried to contact me. I do not know what the charges will be but would O2 be able to see that I had not actually been using my phone for internet searches etc. and the use was an error (obviously by me). I sent less than 15 texts and messenger replies during the entire 12 days and only went online to face book or my bank for around an hour to an hour and a half in total on the 'free' hotel service. I am really worried about the potential cost of this. Your thoughts please.

If you had data roaming/mobile data turned on this is probably why your data charges are high. I know you said you used wifi when you could but the above table shows the costs of calls and texts

You could contact customer services and explain but I doubt they will make any reductions.. http://www.o2.co.uk/contactus

Your MyO2 will give a full breakdown of the charges incurred.
If you feel any of these are in error, you should contact cs on 202 to discuss them.

If you didn't have your mobile data completely switched off it's possible that your apps were updating in the background. Facebook is a particular culprit.

You should always switch off mobile data when outside of Europe where data is a ridiculous £6/mb. This won't stop you using wifi or receiving calls and texts.
